The Giving Garden: Students Grow Kindness Through STEAM

At Pray-Woodman Elementary School, kindness is blossoming—literally! Our new initiative, The Giving Garden, is helping students turn classroom plant cuttings into meaningful acts of service.

Through this hands-on STEAM project, students take the lead in caring for plants, replanting propagated cuttings, and preparing them as appreciation gifts for our staff. The project not only teaches valuable lessons in science, technology, engineering, art, and math, but also nurtures leadership, teamwork, and compassion.

As the garden grows, so does our mission. Eventually, the Giving Garden will extend beyond school walls, with students delivering their plants to local retirement homes to brighten the days of others in our community.

Parents and community members can help bring this vision to life by donating gardening materials, such as gently used pots, potting soil, houseplants, cuttings, or small watering cans. All donations can be dropped off at Pray-Woodman Elementary School, 605 W. Academy Ave during school hours.

Through The Giving Garden, Pray-Woodman students are learning that even small acts—like caring for a plant—can make a big impact. One plant at a time, they are growing kindness, curiosity, and community spirit.
